Sonoma Pride - Rio Beach Party & Film Fest

As part of Sonoma County Pride's full schedule of weekend events, the Rio is proud to welcome kayakers, cyclists, and road travelers to the Rio Theater lawn from 12pm-6:30pm for a Beach Party with music, food, games, and two special Pride Films screenings, "Bobby Jo: Journey of a Singer-songwriter" at 4pm, and "Rivers of Desire", a curated series of shorts at 4:30pm. Enjoy an afternoon of sunshine, good people, and queer films on the Russian River.

Bobby Jo: Journey of a Singer-songwriter (22 mins) at 4pm

Young Sonoma county singer-songwriter Bobby Jo Valentine is at a crossroads. Having broken away from a conservative Baptist upbringing, come out as gay, found his birth mother, and discovered he has a unique talent for writing and performing music, can he connect with audiences and build a new life as a professional singer- songwriter? To find out, Bobby sets out on an ambitious five-day, eight concert tour around California.

Choreographer and curator Tessa Wills screens an enticing selection of unapologetic and passionate queer performance from THIS IS WHAT I WANT, an annual Bay Area performance festival about desire. This provocative series of shorts will be presented by Wills. Expect to see work with bodies, mirrors, twerking, drag, stripping, and an entire set made of marmalade.

 Queer performance made by and for queer people. 

Artists: Philip Huang, Christeene, Cassils, Sofia Senna, Clement Goldberg, Tom Marshman, Crystal Mason, Peter Max Lawrence and Coral Short.

These short films are explicit in nature, and at times include: full nudity, swear words, (queer) sex, and filthy Drag.
